Heavy rain can reveal drainage problems that were easy to miss during dry weather. After Hurricane Isaias moved inland west of Georgia, homeowners around Fortson and Hamilton may be checking whether rainwater still moves from the roof, through the gutters and downspouts, and away from the house. The National Weather Service reported regional wind and heavy-rain impacts; the condition of each home's gutter system still needs to be assessed individually.
Signs that gutters may need attention
- Water spilling over the front edge: Debris can block flow, but overflow can also point to a damaged section or a drainage issue.
- A section that hangs lower than the rest: Loose hangers, bent metal, or a pulled connection can change how water moves through the system.
- Water marks behind the gutter: Look for staining on fascia or siding from the ground; do not climb up to inspect it.
- A disconnected or crushed downspout: Water may be discharging beside the house instead of flowing through the intended outlet.
- Pooling near the foundation: This can have several causes. Check whether downspouts are connected and discharging as designed, and contact a drainage professional if pooling continues.
Cleaning and repair are not the same thing
If the gutters are intact but filled with leaves or roof debris, cleaning may restore flow. If a section is bent, detached, leaking at several joints, or repeatedly overflowing after it is clear, cleaning alone may not solve the problem. Roof granules in a gutter can occur as shingles age, but the amount and the roof's overall condition matter; granules by themselves do not prove storm damage.
Do not use a ladder during wet conditions or reach over the roof edge. A professional can inspect the system safely and explain whether it needs cleaning, a localized repair, or replacement. If you notice active leaking into the home, protect people and belongings first and request help.
When a new roof and gutters are both on the list
Buckstop Roofing's current gutter offer is tied to a qualifying residential roof replacement; it is not a stand-alone gutter installation offer. For eligible roof-replacement agreements signed by December 31, 2026, the promotion includes up to 80 linear feet of aluminum gutters, downspouts, and removal of existing gutters for the included runs. Gutter guards are excluded, additional footage is charged, and the available materials and colors are limited.
